#ClimateCrisis -- The Cows Will Do Nothing About It

A good thing we're finally taking the climate crisis seriously. Thanks go to Greta Thunberg, perhaps. But maybe increased extreme weather events might have something to do with it. Something about 100 year floods happening every hurricane season. Even the most recalcitrant denier might start admitting something going on.

I had a girl in my class last year who was extremely intelligent, the valedictorian of the senior class, who came from a devout evangelical background. When someone asked her if she thought climate change was real, she said, "Yes, it's real, but it's not caused by man." The convolutions that faith puts us through. I also remember at a town meeting several years ago when we were debating a proposal to add our town to a list of New Hampshire municipalities asking for federal action to mitigate the risks of climate change, or words to that effect. Of course there was a debate, and one of those against the motion declared that the problem of climate change was caused primarily by cows and therefore was not a relevant topic for the town to take up. The next person up was a lawyer,  and his words stuck with me.

"It may be the cows who are causing the problem, but the cows aren't going to do anything about it." And with that he sat down. The resolution passed.
